Visakhapatnam: The Indian Navy marked the successful completion of the Second Basic Hawk Conversion Course with a ceremonial graduation held at INS Dega, Visakhapatnam, on Wednesday. The event was highlighted by a landmark achievement—Sub Lieutenant Aastha Poonia becoming the first woman to be inducted into the fighter stream of Indian Naval Aviation.

Rear Admiral Janak Bevli, Assistant Chief of Naval Staff (Air), presented the coveted 'Wings of Gold' to the graduating officers, Sub Lieutenant Poonia and Lieutenant Atul Kumar Dhull, signifying their readiness for fighter flying duties.

The graduation ceremony signified a major step forward in the Navy's ongoing efforts to broaden the scope of opportunities available to its officers. With women officers already operating in Maritime Reconnaissance and helicopter roles, SLt Poonia's entry into the fighter stream adds a new chapter in the Navy's evolving aviation landscape.

The Navy reaffirmed its commitment to inclusivity, stating that the milestone reflects its broader goal of empowering women and strengthening operational diversity through equal opportunities.

With the conclusion of this conversion course, Indian Naval Aviation continues to advance both in tactical capabilities and progressive representation, setting the stage for a more inclusive future in combat aviation.
