Kolkata: West Bengal Governor C V Ananda Bose on Wednesday approved the appointment of vice-chancellors for several state universities, a senior Raj Bhavan official said.

According to the announcement, Prof Abu Taleb Khan has been appointed as the Vice-Chancellor of Biswa Bangla Biswavidyalaya, while Prof Chandradipa Ghosh will take charge at Sadhu Ramchand Murmu University, Jhargram.

Prof Ashis Bhattacharjee has been named Vice-Chancellor of the University of Gour Banga, and Prof Ashutosh Ghosh will head the University of Calcutta. Prof Uday Bandyopadhyay has been appointed to Kazi Nazrul University, while Prof Chiranjib Bhattacharjee will serve as the Vice-Chancellor of Jadavpur University.

The Raj Bhavan official said the appointments take effect immediately. Governor Bose, who also serves as the Chancellor of all state-run universities, made the appointments in accordance with his constitutional authority.
