Kolkata: A section of school job aspirants, who appeared for the recent State Level Selection Test (SLST) conducted by the West Bengal School Service Commission (WBSSC), staged a demonstration in Salt Lake on Thursday demanding fairness in recruitment for government-aided schools.
The protesters gathered at Karunamoyee Metro station and marched to Bikash Bhavan, the state education department headquarters. They opposed the provision of awarding 10 extra marks to untainted teachers who lost their jobs after a Supreme Court order and participated in the fresh exams.
Earlier this year, the apex court had struck down the recruitment of 25,753 teaching and non-teaching staff, calling the 2016 process “vitiated and tainted.”
The aspirants alleged that granting grace marks would deprive fresh candidates and compromise the level playing field. They also sought immediate publication of vacancies in government-aided schools.
Meanwhile, non-teaching staff who lost their jobs in the recruitment controversy said they have been struggling without salaries for the past six months.
The agitators said they want to meet the state education minister to press their objections against the recruitment notification.
