Chennai: The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Chennai, in association with Sri Sairam Engineering College and the Sri Sairam Techno Incubator Foundation, on Monday organised a BIS-Start-Ups Meet with the theme “Strengthening Innovation through Standardisation.”

The day-long event aimed to connect start-ups and academia with India's national standards body to help innovators adopt quality and standardisation practices early in their growth journey.

In her address, G Bhavani, Senior Director and Head of BIS Coimbatore Branch, said the initiative seeks to integrate the innovation and standards ecosystems to make start-ups market-ready and globally competitive.

BIS Chennai Head S D Dayanand highlighted the benefits of early alignment with standards for credibility and market access, while Sri Sairam Techno Incubator Director K Naresh Raj spoke about the institution's role in nurturing entrepreneurial ventures.

BIS Deputy Director General (South) Meenakshi Ganesan, delivering the inaugural address, stressed the role of standardisation and management systems in improving product quality, boosting competitiveness, and enabling exports, alongside promoting sustainability through a circular economy.

BIS officials including Chandan Kumar, Neha Yadav, Gaurav Jayaswal, and Jyoti Kushwaha presented on BIS activities, industry collaboration, and sector-specific standards.

An interactive post-lunch session allowed start-ups to share innovations and explore integrating standards into product development, followed by networking with BIS officials.

BIS said the programme reinforced that innovation and standardisation must go hand in hand to build a quality-first entrepreneurial ecosystem aligned with India's sustainable growth goals.
