Chennai: M K Stalin on Wednesday accused the BJP-led Centre of “going beyond limits” in imposing Hindi and objected to naming the Tiruchirappalli railway divisional office entrance arch as 'Kartavya Dwar'.

The entrance arch of the Railway division office in Tiruchirappalli was recently named 'Kartavya Dwar' (Gate of Duty), triggering a political row in Tamil Nadu over alleged language imposition.

Taking strong exception, Stalin claimed the Union government was pursuing a “vile” attempt to promote Hindi under the guise of “one language, three scripts” by writing the Hindi name in Tamil and English. He demanded that the move be withdrawn and proper Tamil names be included immediately, warning that the Centre would face the anger of Tamils otherwise.

He also alleged that the Centre had renamed institutions and schemes with Hindi or Sanskrit titles, asserting that such steps undermine Tamil identity and self-respect.
