Ranchi: The Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) on Tuesday staged a demonstration in Ranchi, accusing the JMM-led Jharkhand government of delaying the disbursement of scholarship instalments to Dalit, tribal and Other Backward Classes (OBC) students.

Hundreds of BJYM workers took out a symbolic 'funeral procession' of the Hemant Soren government from Zila School Ground to Albert Ekka Chowk, where they also burnt an effigy to register their protest.

BJYM state president Shashank Raj alleged that lakhs of students had not received their scholarship instalments since 2024, forcing many of them to take to the streets to demand their dues.

“These scholarships are the rightful entitlement of students. We are supporting their cause and protesting against the government's inaction,” Raj said.

Ranchi district BJP president Varun Sahu said scholarships were a right of students belonging to marginalised sections and accused the ruling party of failing to fulfil promises made before coming to power.

He warned that if the state government did not release the pending scholarships at the earliest, the issue would be raised by BJP legislators in the next session of the Jharkhand Assembly.

The protest concluded peacefully, with police maintaining a close watch on the demonstration.
