New Delhi: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will discontinue post-result verification of marks for Class 12 board examinations from 2026 as it transitions to a fully digital evaluation system using On-Screen Marking (OSM), officials said on Friday.

The board conducted a workshop for school principals and teachers to explain the modalities of the new digital correction system, which will be implemented for Class 12 exams from the 2026 academic session.

However, evaluation of Class 10 answer scripts will continue in the existing physical mode.

Examination Controller Sanyam Bhardwaj said the shift to digital marking would eliminate totalling errors and discrepancies that earlier prompted students to apply for verification of marks.

“In the earlier system, students often sought verification to check for errors in totalling or unmarked answers. With digital evaluation, such discrepancies will be removed at the initial stage itself,” he said.

Bhardwaj added that the reform followed extensive preparation, including system redesign, dry runs, identification of technical glitches, stakeholder consultations, global testing and strengthening of safety protocols.

The CBSE conducts Class 10 and Class 12 board examinations annually in India and 26 other countries, covering nearly 46 lakh students.

Officials said the digital system would reduce manual intervention, improve coordination and enable faster evaluation. It would also promote environmental sustainability and allow teachers to assess answer scripts remotely while continuing their regular school duties.
