Chennai: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is set to shift its focus from rote learning to thinking skills-based assessment in a bid to enhance students' problem-solving abilities and real-world application of knowledge.
According to CBSE officials, upcoming question papers will be designed to test in-depth understanding of subjects, self-reflection, and analytical skills, moving away from memorisation-driven evaluation.
As part of this shift, the Board has decided to increase the proportion of objective and thinking skills questions to nearly 50 per cent in public examinations. Model question papers incorporating these changes are being prepared and shared with students.
Teachers have also been advised to train students in critical and creative thinking to help them adapt to the new assessment pattern.
