Madurai: Madurai District Collector Praveen Kumar expressed dissatisfaction with education department officials for failing to provide satisfactory responses during a monthly review meeting and directed them to come prepared with complete details for the next session.
The meeting, held on Sunday, was attended by Chief Educational Officer Renuka, several District Education Officers, Corporation Education Officer Jaishankar, principals of government high and higher secondary schools, and officials from the Public Works, Transport, and Electricity departments.
According to officials, the Collector raised queries regarding ongoing school construction works, student dropout rates, preparedness for the rainy season, removal of unsafe buildings, and the performance of students in Class 10 and 12 board exams. However, several officers were unable to provide adequate information, prompting the Collector to take exception.
He also sought explanations from principals of schools with poor academic performance and noted that additional buildings were sanctioned in some schools despite low student strength. He instructed that proposals for new school buildings should be taken up only after consultation with the Chief Educational Officer.
Concluding the meeting, the Collector directed all officials to attend future review meetings with complete data and clarity on the agenda.
