New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi said he was glad to see a record increase in the number of Indian universities featured in the QS Asia University Rankings 2026, reaffirming the government's commitment to ensuring quality education, research, and innovation.

Sharing a link to the rankings report, Modi noted that the number of Indian universities in the list has risen from 24 in 2016 to 294 in 2026.

“Glad to see a record increase in the number of Indian universities in the QS Asia University Rankings over the last decade. Our government is committed to ensuring quality education for our youth, with a focus on research and innovation,” he said.

He added that the government is also building institutional capacities by enabling more educational institutions across the country.

According to the QS University Rankings announced on Tuesday, five Indian Institutes of Technology — IIT Delhi, IIT Madras, IIT Bombay, IIT Kanpur, and IIT Kharagpur — along with the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bengaluru and Delhi University, featured in Asia's top 100 institutes.

IIT Delhi, ranked 59th, was named the best Indian institute for the fifth consecutive year.
