Chennai: The CSIR-Structural Engineering Research Centre (CSIR-SERC), Chennai, hosted a week-long outreach programme titled 'One Day as a Scientist' from July 21 to 25, aimed at promoting scientific temper among school students.

The initiative, held at the CSIR Campus, offered students a rare opportunity to experience a day in the life of a scientist by participating in hands-on activities and laboratory visits. Around 80 students per day from various schools took part in the programme, engaging with scientists and exploring research facilities at CSIR-SERC and the CSIR Madras Complex.

The event was inaugurated virtually by Dr. Vinay K. Nandicoori, Director, CSIR-CCMB, while Dr. S. Sundar Kumar, Principal Scientist at CSIR-SERC, presented an overview of the programme. Dr. N. Anandavalli, Director of CSIR-SERC, interacted with students and encouraged them to consider careers in science.

The programme was coordinated by Dr. S. Maheswaran, Senior Principal Scientist, and Dr. Sundar Kumar, with a strong emphasis on practical demonstrations and real-time lab exposure.

CSIR-SERC's outreach aims to foster a passion for science and innovation by connecting young minds with the research ecosystem. The initiative aligns with CSIR's broader mission to promote scientific learning and cultivate future scientists.
