Thiruvarur: President Droupadi Murmu, on Wednesday addressed the convocation ceremony of the Central University of Tamil Nadu, lauding students, teachers, and administrators for their dedication to academic excellence and societal development.

Speaking at Thiruvarur, the President congratulated graduating students, especially medal winners, and their families, calling the day a culmination of years of hard work and a foundation for future careers. She appreciated the university's efforts in fostering intellectual curiosity, critical thinking, and extension education, particularly initiatives aimed at raising awareness in rural areas.

Highlighting the institution's contributions to marginalized communities, President Murmu cited programmes such as the Community College and the Dr. Ambedkar Centre for Excellence. She emphasised that education should link individual growth with social development, quoting former President Dr. S. Radhakrishnan on the importance of wisdom and compassion.

The President noted that in its 14-year history, the university has nurtured talent from across India, from Ladakh to Lakshadweep, and praised its inclusive gender balance, pointing out that girls secured more than two-thirds of the gold medals this year. She said such achievements signal healthy and inclusive societal growth and expressed confidence in the youth, particularly daughters, shaping India's Amrit Kal.

Sharing her personal experience as a former school teacher, she encouraged students to remain lifelong learners, citing Mahatma Gandhi's example of continuous learning. President Murmu urged students to harness digital resources, blend tradition with modernity, and acquire skills in emerging fields like Artificial Intelligence and Industry 4.0.

She also underscored the responsibilities of citizenship, urging graduates to contribute to society and help the underprivileged, linking ethical values with personal and professional success.

Concluding her address, President Murmu extended best wishes to students for their careers and role in nation-building, and congratulated the university's faculty and administration for their unwavering commitment to education.
