Chennai: The Central University of Tamil Nadu (CUTN), Thiruvarur celebrated its 8th Convocation, awarding degrees to 854 graduates, including 467 women and 387 men.
The event was significant as CUTN recently attained an A+ rating with a score of 3.44 from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), reflecting its dedication to academic excellence and improvement.
Chancellor Padma Bhushan Prof. G. Padmanaban presided over the ceremony, encouraging graduates to pursue careers that fulfill personal aspirations and contribute to society. He highlighted the new NAAC accreditation system aimed at enhancing higher education standards in India through streamlined and transparent processes.
Vice Chancellor Prof. M. Krishnan congratulated the graduates and acknowledged the support of their families and the dedication of faculty and staff. He celebrated the university's academic achievements, including its improved NAAC score, notable rankings in NIRF and IIRF, and the Department of Chemistry's ranking in the Nature Index.
Prof. Krishnan also emphasized CUTN's commitment to community development through initiatives like Unnat Bharat Abhiyan and the Skill Hub Programme, which equip students with vocational skills. He announced the establishment of three new departments: Pharmaceutical Science, Food Science, and Foreign Languages, approved by the UGC.
The Vice Chancellor outlined the university's vision to expand academic programs, foster research, and serve the community in alignment with the National Education Policy 2020.
Established in 2009, CUTN has grown significantly, moving to its permanent campus in 2013-14, now spanning 516.76 acres, divided by the Vettar River into academic and residential sectors.
