Madurai: Tamil Nadu Finance Minister P Thiagarajan on Sunday stressed the need for acquiring digital technology skills to keep pace with the changing times.

Speaking at a Digital Entrepreneurship Seminar organised by the Indian Women's Network (IWN) here, Thiagarajan said Chief Minister M K Stalin had reiterated that the State's economy was focused not only on growth but also on social development.

“The real economic growth of Tamil Nadu has risen from 9.6 per cent to 11.9 per cent. Compared to the national average, 50 per cent of women in Tamil Nadu are engaged in sectors like electronics, information technology and engineering,” he said.

Recalling the monthly scholarship scheme for underprivileged girls introduced during his tenure as Finance Minister, he said around two lakh beneficiaries had been covered under it.

“If we do not implement technology on a large scale, there is no future for democracy. Technology builds trust between the government and the people,” he added.

Southern Zone IWN president Gauri, State administrators Amudhavally and Savitha, DN Startup CEO Sivaraja, CII Madurai Zone chairman Ashwin Desai and others were present.

The event was coordinated by Madurai branch head Poornima.
