Since its founding in 1951, Dinamalar has been a steadfast companion to students and parents, launching pioneering initiatives to support educational development.
Guided by the belief that student progress reflects national progress, the newspaper has embraced its social responsibility to empower the next generation.
For over six decades, Dinamalar has provided consistent and meaningful support to the student community.
Siruvar Malar:
In 1984, Dinamalar introduced Siruvar Malar, a weekly 32-page supplement exclusively for children—an unprecedented initiative in Indian journalism at the time.
Jaithu Kattovum:
To help students in rural areas tackle the 10th standard board exams with confidence, the Jaithu Kattovum program was launched in 1994. Seasoned educators and experts offered tips on effective study techniques and exam strategies. The program, initially focused on Class X state board students, expanded to Plus 2 students in both Arts and Science streams.
Held annually from October to December, it reached over 125 locations in a single year and has benefited lakhs of students over the past 31 years.
At the request of then-Chennai Mayor M.K. Stalin, Jaithu Kattovum was also conducted exclusively for corporation school students.
A memorable highlight was the participation of former President Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam at the 2012 Chennai edition.
Latchiya Aasiriyar Virudhu:
For the past decade, Dinamalar has celebrated excellence in teaching by conferring the Latchiya Aasiriyar Virudhu to outstanding school educators annually.
Pattam:
Pattam is a 12-page educational supplement delivered directly to schools five days a week, covering 180 days a year.
Published as a single-page insert every Monday in Dinamalar, it focuses solely on education and general knowledge, avoiding crime, politics, and cinema.
Prepared by expert editors, Pattam enriches classroom learning.
Pattam Quiz:
The annual Pattam Quiz brings together thousands of school students from across Tamil Nadu. Winners of the final round are rewarded with a visit to the NASA Space Center.
Over the last five years, participation has soared, and many winners have gone on to achieve remarkable success.
Vidhyarambam:
Every Vijayadasami, Dinamalar organizes the Vidhyarambam ceremony, where eminent writers, artists, and educators guide young children in writing their first letter. This cherished tradition continues to receive overwhelming support from parents.
Neengalum Aagalaam IAS:
This initiative introduces aspiring students to the Civil Services Exam process. IAS and IPS officers, training institute leaders, and mentors provide insights into exam preparation, strategy, and interview skills. The event draws large crowds and reinforces student trust in Dinamalar's mission.
Vazhikatti:
To help students navigate life after Plus 2, Vazhikatti offers advice on diverse courses, institutions, and career paths beyond the traditional choices of engineering and medicine. Experts shed light on opportunities in emerging fields, higher education, and the job market.
