New Delhi: In order to offer job-oriented professional courses to students and to enhance their employability, Delhi University (DU) is planning to start at least 10 vocational degree programmes through School of Open Learning (SOL) with industry collaboration.
The university has already tied up with professional institutions specializing in vocational streams and other leading corporates and is running various short-term programmes as pilot project.
According to vice-chancellor of DU, Deepak Pental, ‘‘Hopefully from this year, we are going to run at least 10 vocational programmes with industry collaboration. The areas include computers, BPO, insurance, retail, finance, media & entertainment, travel & tourism, automobile among others.
Savita Dutta, director, COL: ‘'We are designing the modules for the programmes in consultation with the industry keeping in view that the students completing these programmes get job. But right now we will not be able to spell out the exact details about the degree courses as we are going to look into all the ongoing pilot projects, the responses of students and industry and then decide on the list of programmes.’'
