Cuddalore: Just as other factors such as religion, family, caste, language and native place do, education gives a permanent identity to a person for life Union Minister of Home P. Chidambaram said here on Tuesday.
Speaking at the Manjakuppam grounds on 'Education loan campaign' organised by banks, he said banks had disbursed Rs.27, 646 crore as educational loan to 16 lakh students across the country until March 31, 2009. The total amount was far bigger than the size of the budget of any State.
He appreciated bankers for extending financial assistance to the needy, including farmers and self-help groups.
Nearly 18 banks put up their 18 stalls for issuing and receiving loan applications. A large number of students turned out for the education loan campaign.
