Chennai: As many as 12,346 students who received provisional allotments in the third round of Tamil Nadu engineering counselling did not confirm their allotments and exited the process, according to counselling data.

Counselling for admissions to engineering colleges under Anna University began on August 13. As many as 1,02,719 students were invited to participate in the third round.

Students were given an opportunity to select their preferred colleges and courses, following which provisional allotment orders were issued on August 21.

A total of 68,640 students received provisional allotments for BE and BTech courses, including 66,159 under the general category and 2,481 under the 7.5 per cent government-school quota.

Final allotment orders were subsequently issued to 56,294 students — 54,684 under the general category and 1,610 under the 7.5 per cent quota.

Of those receiving final allotments, 6,621 students have confirmed their colleges and are awaiting upward movement to higher-preference choices.
