Chennai: The Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) will organise Social Security Awareness Melas across educational institutions in Chennai and Puducherry on October 6 as part of the Pradhan Mantri Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana.

The initiative aims to familiarise students, young professionals, and future workforce entrants with the benefits of provident fund savings and social security coverage early in their careers.

According to a directive from the EPFO headquarters, regional offices have been instructed to hold these Melas in colleges, universities, and technical institutes, ensuring participation from students, faculty, and youth groups. The awareness drives will include interactive sessions, exhibitions, and audio-visual presentations explaining EPFO's key schemes such as provident fund, pension, and insurance benefits.

EPFO officials will also interact directly with students to address queries, demonstrate digital services, and emphasise the importance of formal social security coverage at the start of one's career.

The campaign is designed to inculcate financial discipline and create awareness about long-term financial planning among youth.

The Melas will be held at the following institutions: Loyola College (Chennai North), Sathyabama Institute of Science and Technology (Chennai South), Rajalakshmi Engineering College (Ambattur), Sri Venkateswara Medical College (Puducherry), MIT College (Sriperumbudur), Guru Nanak College (Tambaram), Vel Tech Multi Tech Engineering College (Thiruvallur) and Vellore Institute of Technology (Vellore).
