Chennai: The Employees' State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) Medical College and Hospital, K.K. Nagar, has launched the Swasth Nari, Sashakt Parivar Abhiyan, a flagship initiative of the Union Health Ministry, in line with its nationwide roll-out by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The programme was inaugurated on September 17 under the leadership of Dr Sowmya Sampath, Dean of the institution, following the live telecast of the Prime Minister's address.

The two-week campaign, running till October 2, aims to promote women's health and family well-being through preventive care and awareness drives.

On the opening day, the hospital offered services such as antenatal care, screening for cervical and breast cancer, anaemia testing, tuberculosis and oral cancer checks, adolescent health assessments and non-communicable disease detection. Outreach camps were also organised at Foxconn (Sunguvachathiram) and Sangeetha Veg Restaurant (Perungalathur), extending screening and counselling to women workers.

Awareness sessions on nutrition, food safety, menstrual hygiene and preventive health practices were conducted, with support from Zonal Food Safety Officer Sundaramurthi and his team. A blood donation camp was also organised at Adyar with voluntary participation.

The campaign will feature daily community and industrial camps along with in-house screenings, focusing on antenatal care, anaemia prevention, cancer screening, adolescent wellness and lifestyle-related diseases. Additional blood donation camps and health talks are also scheduled.

The initiative, officials said, underlines ESIC's commitment to advancing women's health and strengthening families through community participation.
