A total of 8,15,400 students appeared in the the Central Board of Secondary Education examination held in March. The overall pass rate is 88.84 per cent, an increase of 1.76 per cent over last year.

While 89.78 per cent of the girl students got through the test, the pass rate of boys is 88.18 per cent, the CBSE said. Also, a total of 1,94,523 students secured more than 60 per cent marks in the test.

Altogether 47,821 candidates, including 24,801 boys, secured over 90 per cent marks. About 4,933 students,including 2,623 girls, secured more than 95 per cent marks.

Parnil Singh, a student of Kendriya Vidyalay Vizag, topped the exam with 494 marks out of 500. Six students secured the second position with 493 marks, the board said.

Students from Chennai region fared better than other regions with a pass rate of 95.6 per cent. Chennai is followed by Ajmer region which recorded a pass rate of 94.14 per cent. The pass rate of Delhi region is 87.70 per cent.
