New Delhi: The central government has decided to act on the recommendations of an expert panel to address issues in major entrance exams, including JEE and NEET. These exams are critical for admission to engineering, medical, and other professional courses across the country.

A growing number of students enroll in government and private coaching centers after completing Plus Two to prepare for these exams. However, concerns have been raised over high fees and inadequate teaching at some private coaching institutes, prompting the Union Education Ministry to take corrective action.

In June, the Ministry constituted a nine-member committee, chaired by Higher Education Secretary Vineet Joshi, to examine challenges faced by students in entrance examinations. The committee is reviewing whether the Plus Two syllabus adequately prepares students for these competitive exams and whether any gaps exist in examination design or content.

A senior Ministry official noted that students face significant difficulty clearing entrance exams despite following the Plus Two syllabus. Parents, teachers, and education board members have expressed concerns about the mismatch between school curricula and entrance exam requirements. The committee is analyzing data from multiple sources, including students, educators, and boards, to provide recommendations for improving fairness, accessibility, and effectiveness of entrance examinations.

The government's decision to act on this panel's recommendations reflects its commitment to ensuring equitable access to higher education while addressing systemic challenges in the current examination and preparation system.
