Chennai: In view of intensified northeast monsoon rains, district administrations across Tamil Nadu have declared holidays for schools and colleges in several districts on Tuesday.

Schools and colleges in Cuddalore, Chengalpattu, Kanchipuram, Villupuram, Thanjavur, Kallakurichi, Mayiladuthurai, Thiruvarur, Thiruvallur, Sivagangai, Ranipet, and Tiruchirappalli will remain closed. In Chennai, only schools have been given a holiday.

The Chennai Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for the city, warning of heavy rainfall. As a precaution, 900 firefighters are on standby, and 17 locations prone to waterlogging have been identified with relief camps set up with necessary equipment.

Schools in Pudukkottai, Salem, Perambalur, Namakkal, Tiruppur, and Karur districts have also been closed for the day. Additionally, schools and colleges in Puducherry and Karaikal have been granted holidays in view of the inclement weather.
