Chennai: The Indian-made navigation app Mappls, developed by MapmyIndia, is witnessing a surge in popularity and is increasingly being viewed as a strong competitor to Google Maps.
Following the recent trade friction between India and the US, the demand for indigenous apps has risen sharply, with Mappls emerging as one of the top choices among users seeking locally developed digital tools.
Launched in 2021, Mappls offers several advanced features aimed at improving navigation accuracy and user convenience. Among its standout elements are 3D junction views of flyovers and tunnels for safer navigation, AI-based real-time traffic updates suggesting alternate routes, and alerts for speed bumps, potholes, and accident-prone areas.
The app also includes a toll-saving calculator that estimates total travel costs, including toll and fuel expenses, while suggesting the most economical routes. Additionally, users can pinpoint their exact location using a unique six-character code, eliminating the need for lengthy addresses.
With its focus on hyperlocal mapping and user-friendly design, Mappls has been downloaded by over one crore users nationwide, marking a significant milestone in India's push for self-reliant digital innovation.
