Chennai: The Department of Mathematics at Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) has been awarded Silver-Level recognition under the CAS University Recognition Program by the Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS), a leading global body for actuarial professionals in general insurance.

This accolade highlights IIT Madras' alignment with the CAS curriculum and its strong track record in preparing students for careers in property and casualty insurance risk management. The department offers robust undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs in pure and applied mathematics, statistics, and financial modeling.

“This recognition underscores our department's strength in stochastic processes, financial mathematics, and data analytics—core areas of actuarial science,” said Prof. Neelesh S. Upadhye. He added that the department looks forward to enhancing collaboration with CAS through faculty development, summer student programs, and joint research initiatives.

As a Silver-Level partner, IIT Madras will gain access to CAS teaching resources, priority student placements in CAS summer programs, and opportunities to host CAS-sponsored events.

CAS Chief Business Officer Joyce Warner welcomed IIT Madras to the program and urged other institutions to pursue recognition. The current designation is valid through 2026.
