New Delhi: Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari on Monday said India has set its sights on becoming the number one automobile manufacturing nation in the world within the next five years.

Addressing the International Value Summit here, Gadkari said India has already overtaken Japan to become the third-largest automobile market globally. “All major automobile manufacturers are now in India, and the focus has shifted from production for the domestic market to exports,” he said.

He noted that nearly 50 per cent of two-wheelers produced in India are exported, underscoring the country's growing role in the global automobile sector.

On clean mobility, Gadkari said the Centre has cleared the use of hydrogen-powered trucks and pilot projects have been launched on 10 routes. “Our aim is to make India a global leader in the green movement,” he added.
