Villupuram: The Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER), Puducherry, conducted a comprehensive health camp at Sharadha Ashram, Ulundurpet, focusing on the well-being of rural women. The initiative was organised under the Centre's “Swasth Nari, Sashakt Parivar Abhiyaan” programme.
Over 700 women from Ulundurpet and neighbouring villages benefited from consultations, screenings, and counselling services. The camp highlighted preventive and promotive healthcare, bringing specialist services closer to communities with limited access.
Maternal and child health services, including antenatal, postnatal and paediatric check-ups, were a major focus, along with counselling sessions. Screening for tuberculosis and awareness on organ donation were also carried out. Specialist consultations in ophthalmology, ENT, dental and geriatric care were provided, along with mental health counselling.
The camp also featured an “Eat Right” campaign aimed at spreading awareness on balanced diets and healthy lifestyles. In addition, ABHA, PMJAY and Vay Vandana cards were generated, extending digital health and social security coverage to participants. A blood donation drive was also organised to mobilise voluntary donors.
Several beneficiaries expressed gratitude for the initiative, describing it as a rare opportunity to access quality healthcare at their doorstep. “This camp has not only given us medical care but also confidence to prioritise our health and future,” a participant said.
Officials said the camp combined medical care with awareness efforts to ensure a holistic healthcare experience for rural women and their families.
