Puducherry: The Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) on Friday celebrated the 79th Independence Day with a ceremonial flag hoisting and cultural programmes reflecting the spirit of patriotism.

The National Flag was unfurled by JIPMER Director Prof. Dr. Vir Singh Negi, followed by the National Anthem. In his address, Dr. Negi greeted faculty, students and staff, recalling India's journey since independence and stressing the role of premier institutions like JIPMER in nation-building.

“Freedom is the cornerstone of growth and progress. JIPMER remains committed to advancing the nation's cause through excellence in healthcare, education and research. This day reminds us of our responsibility to uphold compassion, integrity and innovation,” he said.

Students presented patriotic songs and dances during the programme, which also highlighted JIPMER's recent initiatives, including improvements in patient care, expansion of specialised training and new research projects to enhance public health.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks and distribution of sweets.
