Puducherry: The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, JIPMER, organized a Villupattu folk art program to raise awareness on women's health as part of the Prime Minister's flagship Swasth Nari, Sashakt Parivar Abhiyaan campaign, which emphasizes that the well-being of women is central to the health and prosperity of every household.
Nurses from the Department of Nursing presented the Villupattu performance, creatively conveying key health messages in an engaging and relatable manner. The folk art presentation was followed by interactive sessions led by medical experts from the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
The discussions focused on the importance of regular gynecological consultations, highlighting breast and cervical cancer screening, Pap smear tests, HPV vaccination, menstrual hygiene, antenatal care, and post-menopausal health. Emphasis was laid on preventive care and periodic check-ups for early detection, timely treatment, and overall well-being.
The combined efforts of nurses and medical professionals ensured that the messages reached participants in an accessible and culturally resonant manner. Attendees appreciated the use of traditional art to communicate important health information effectively.
The program reinforced the idea that healthy women are the foundation of strong families and empowered communities, aligning with the national vision of promoting women's health and strengthening households. Initiatives like these aim to educate, empower, and enable women to take charge of their health, thereby contributing to healthier families and communities.
