Puducherry: Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER), Puducherry, has won the FICCI Healthcare Excellence Award 2025 under the category “Excellence in Patient Care and Service Delivery - Public Hospitals.”
The award, organised by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), was presented at a ceremony held in New Delhi on October 8. Dr. K. Ramesh Babu, Professor and Head, Department of Ophthalmology, received the award on behalf of JIPMER.
Expressing pride over the recognition, Dr. Vir Singh Negi, Director, JIPMER, said the award affirms the institute's commitment to providing “accessible, patient-centred, and high-quality healthcare through continuous innovation and service improvement.”
He said that JIPMER's efforts in developing advanced clinical systems have significantly enhanced both the quality of care and patient satisfaction. Among its key innovations, the Back-Referral Triage Model for Pregnant Mothers, developed by the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, has helped optimise risk stratification, streamline referral pathways, and ensure judicious use of medical resources.
“By integrating evidence-based practices with compassionate care, JIPMER continues to strengthen service delivery and improve operational efficiency,” Dr. Negi said, adding that the institute aims to set national benchmarks in hospital management and patient welfare.
Highlighting the institute's focus on quality monitoring, he said a comprehensive patient feedback system has been established at all levels to continuously review and enhance services, ensuring that the healthcare needs of all patients — particularly the poor and underprivileged — are effectively met.
Dr. Negi also underscored JIPMER's emphasis on capacity building. “JIPMER is committed to improving the standards of healthcare professionals through regular specialty-based and common training programmes,” he said. “The quality of our service delivery stands as a benchmark in the country, and we will continue to upgrade these standards to meet evolving healthcare demands.”
He added that the institute's initiatives align with the Prime Minister's 'Viksit Bharat 2047' vision, which seeks to create a developed, inclusive, and self-reliant India through innovation and excellence in all sectors, including healthcare.
By ensuring accessible and equitable healthcare, while also investing in human resource development, JIPMER continues to play a key role in strengthening India's public health infrastructure, he said.
The FICCI Healthcare Excellence Awards recognise organisations that demonstrate operational excellence, innovation, and measurable impact in improving the efficiency and effectiveness of healthcare delivery across the country.
This honour, officials said, reinforces JIPMER's position as one of India's premier institutions dedicated to delivering holistic, affordable, and patient-focused healthcare for all.
