New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday stressed the need to continuously modernise and improve India's education system to align it with emerging technologies and the global economy.
Addressing a post-Budget webinar on effective implementation of development initiatives, Modi said the country must focus on preparing its youth for future opportunities while strengthening sectors such as sports, technology and healthcare.
He noted that sports infrastructure is being strengthened across the country and India is preparing to host major international sporting events in the coming years, including the Commonwealth Games and the Olympics. In this context, he said, young sporting talent must be identified and nurtured early to help India perform better in global competitions.
Modi said the government is working to ensure that the education system equips students with the skills needed for the future, including in areas such as artificial intelligence, automation and digital technology. He also emphasised the importance of ensuring that women are not left behind in the emerging technology landscape.
The prime minister said fulfilling people's aspirations is a key objective of the Union Budget 2026, adding that the country has witnessed significant growth over the past decade.
Highlighting the aspirations of young Indians across villages and cities, Modi described their determination as a “huge strength” that will shape the country's future.
