Madurai: The Tamil Nadu Government Music College, Madurai, provides three-year degree courses in Vocals, Veena, Violin, Flute, Mridangam, Nadaswaram, Bharatanatyam and Folklore departments.
The admission for the forth coming academic year has commenced and candidates aged between 13 and 18 and those who have passed 8th standard can apply It also provides opportunity to learn music with the help of a monthly stipend of Rs.250.
According to statement issued by the District Collector, N.Mathivanan, candidates aged between 13 and 18, who have passed Class VIII are eligible to apply for these courses. However, restrictions will be eased to candidates who have expertise on music.
Admissions are also provided for one-year Music teacher training degree. The candidate should have passed Class X and hold B.A. (Music) 'Isaikalaimani' degree in vocal music, veena and violin or ‘Vaathiyakalaimani’ for flute, mridangam and nadaswaram and should between the age group of 16 to 25.
Likewise admissions are also open for Government Music College (Evening). Two-year certificate course is being offered in Indian music in Vocal, Veena, Violin, Flute, Mridangam, Nadaswaram and Bharatanatyam. Classes are held between 6.p.m. to 8.p.m and there is no age restriction for the Evening College.
Applications for the above said courses are available at the office of Tamil Nadu Government Music College from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on all working days. For further details contact the college on 0452 2370861.
