Pune: A first-term cadet of the National Defence Academy (NDA) in Pune died on Friday after falling ill during his first official physical training (PT) parade at the tri-services training institute, officials said.
The cadet, identified as Abhinav Bajpai (17), hailed from Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh and had joined the NDA at Khadakwasla near Pune on June 24.
According to the Defence Public Relations Officer (PRO), Bajpai complained of uneasiness during the routine morning physical training session and suddenly lost consciousness.
He was immediately rushed to the Military Hospital, Khadakwasla, where a medical team carried out intensive resuscitative efforts. However, he could not be revived and was declared dead, the PRO said in a statement.
The PT session was the cadet's first official physical training parade after joining the academy.
The NDA has ordered a Court of Inquiry (CoI) to ascertain the facts and circumstances leading to the incident.
The next of kin of the deceased cadet have been informed and the local police have also been notified, the statement said.
"The National Defence Academy extends its deepest condolences to the bereaved family during this difficult time," it added.
Established over seven decades ago, the NDA is the country's premier tri-services training institution, where cadets undergo joint training before being commissioned as officers in the Indian Army, the Indian Navy and the Indian Air Force.
