Cuttack: President Droupadi Murmu on Tuesday attended the convocation ceremony of Ravenshaw University in Cuttack, Odisha, and lauded the institution's historic role in India's freedom movement and its continued contribution to education and women's empowerment.

Addressing the gathering, the President said Ravenshaw has produced several notable personalities including freedom fighters, educationists, litterateurs, philosophers, scientists, and political leaders who have brought glory to the nation. She expressed satisfaction over the university's achievements in research, innovation, and outreach to marginalized communities.

Murmu noted that the university's efforts in promoting entrepreneurship through its Centre of Design, Innovation and Entrepreneurship were commendable. She also appreciated its initiatives to increase the enrollment of students from tribal and underprivileged backgrounds, as well as persons with disabilities.

Highlighting the impact of emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, 3D printing, and cloud computing, the President said educational institutions must harness these tools for progress while remaining cautious about their misuse.

"This is the era of science and technology. The youth must prepare to contribute to nation-building with knowledge, skill, and devotion," she said, urging students to draw inspiration from people serving the country across various sectors.

Later in the day, President Murmu laid the foundation stone for the redevelopment of three buildings of Ravenshaw Girls' High School. She said improved infrastructure and quality teaching play a key role in fostering a conducive learning environment.

Lauding the initiative as a step towards girls' education, she said girls perform remarkably well when given equal opportunities, and are excelling in fields ranging from science and literature to commerce and industry.

Murmu encouraged girl students to take inspiration from successful women across sectors and strive to achieve their goals with confidence and determination.
