Balasore/Bhubaneswar: President Droupadi Murmu on Tuesday urged students of Odisha's Fakir Mohan University to support those left behind in the country's development journey, saying true progress lies in the growth of all sections of society.

Addressing the university's convocation ceremony in Balasore, she said dedication is the key to success in every endeavour. Paying tribute to 'Vyasakabi' Fakir Mohan Senapati, Murmu recalled being deeply influenced by his story 'Rebati' during her student days.

Highlighting the National Education Policy 2020, she said it encourages learning in the mother tongue and staying connected to culture. India's rich knowledge tradition, she noted, spans literature, science, medicine and architecture.

The President said meaningful lives go beyond personal success and involve serving others. She appreciated the university's focus on research, outreach and community programmes, and urged it to adopt villages for development activities.

A total of 1,831 students received degrees and medals at the ceremony, officials said.
