Kolkata: Around 300 teachers from state-run primary schools in West Bengal staged a rally on Wednesday, urging the government to regularise their jobs.
The demonstration, organised by the 'Usti United Primary Teachers Welfare Association', began at Subodh Mallick Square and concluded at Rani Rashmoni Avenue in central Kolkata.
A spokesperson for the association said, “We demand our jobs be regularised as we contribute significantly to the smooth academic and administrative functioning of our schools. With the state planning fresh recruitment through a new Teacher Eligibility Test (TET), we feel overlooked despite holding all required degrees and qualifications.”
She added, “Other state governments have taken legal measures to regularise primary teachers' services. We expect the West Bengal government to follow suit.”
