Chennai: The University Grants Commission (UGC) has directed all universities to strictly implement reservation policies in temporary appointments.
In a circular issued to universities, UGC Secretary Manish R. Joshi stated that as per the guidelines of the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), reservation norms must be followed in temporary appointments of 45 days or more across universities in the country.
The National Commission for Backward Classes has also emphasised strict adherence to reservation provisions. Accordingly, reservation for Other Backward Classes (OBC), Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST) must be implemented in temporary teaching and administrative appointments.
The circular further instructed universities to submit details of temporary staff appointed in teaching and non-teaching positions during the academic years 2023-24 and 2024-25 to the UGC.
