Coimbatore: The Tamil Nadu government will establish robotics laboratories in 38 government high and higher secondary schools at a cost of Rs 15.43 crore to enhance students' technical skills and creativity.

The initiative, aimed at students of classes 9 to 12, seeks to promote teamwork, innovation and interest in science and technology. One school in each district has been selected for the project.

In Coimbatore district, Arasur Government Higher Secondary School has been approved for the facility, while D. Nalligaundampalayam Government Higher Secondary School in Pollachi was also shortlisted. The lab will function from a classroom and will be open to students from nearby primary, middle and high schools.

Education department officials said the labs would be equipped with advanced technology to encourage robotics learning and innovation among school students. Work on the project is expected to commence in October, they added.
