Chennai: The fifth edition of the 'Precise Energy' Olympiad, organised by Atomstroyexport JSC, the engineering division of Russian state atomic energy corporation Rosatom, concluded in Chennai this week, drawing participation from more than 12,500 schoolchildren and college students across Tamil Nadu.
The three-day event, held from September 2 to 4 at the Russian Centre of Science and Culture here with support from the Tamil Nadu Science and Technology Centre, saw students compete in mathematics, physics and chemistry. Over the past five years, the Olympiad has attracted more than 41,000 participants from 90 schools and colleges across the state.
Speaking at the award ceremony, Nina Dementsova, Head of Communications Division of Atomstroy export JSC, said the Olympiad highlights the growing interest in natural sciences while strengthening Russian-Indian cooperation in education and research.
Tamil Nadu Science and Technology Centre Director Dr Shanmuga Sundaram thanked Rosatom for encouraging Indian students to pursue science, while Russian Consul General in Chennai Valery Khodzhaev noted that such events provide young people with opportunities to realise their potential and contribute to scientific progress.
The 2025 winners included Prashanthesh S (Velammal Vidyalaya Annexure, Chennai) in the school category, Ragland Samuel J (Anna University, Coimbatore) in chemistry, R Madhumetha (Rajalakshmi Engineering College) in physics, and Harish Krishna K (College of Engineering, Guindy, Anna University) in mathematics. A team from Vels Institute of Science, Technology & Advanced Studies (VISTAS) bagged the top spot in the engineering problem-solving competition.
The Olympiad, also conducted in Rosatom partner countries such as Bangladesh and Egypt, is planned to be expanded to Uzbekistan. It seeks to popularise engineering and scientific professions among students and support young talent in Tamil Nadu.
