Gandhinagar (Gujarat): Rashtriya Raksha University (RRU) on Thursday celebrated Gujarat Foundation Day with a series of cultural and historical events at its campus in Lavad, Dehgam, Gandhinagar. The event was jointly organised by the Directorate of Extension and Distance Learning (EDLD) and the School of Internal Security and SMART Policing (SISSP).
The celebration was aimed at commemorating the formation of the state of Gujarat and highlighting its cultural and historical legacy. Prof. (Dr.) Kalpesh H Wandra, Pro Vice-Chancellor of RRU, attended the event as Chief Guest, while Dr. Rizwan Kadri, noted historian and member of the Prime Minister's Museum and Library Society, New Delhi, delivered the keynote address.
The programme commenced with the felicitation of dignitaries and a rendition of the iconic song "Jai Jai Garvi Gujarat". Prof. (Dr.) Priyanka Sharma, Dean, EDLD, welcomed the gathering and underlined the importance of Gujarat's formation in defining the region's socio-cultural fabric.
Dr. Kadri's address focused on the historical contributions of Mahatma Gandhi and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, and the role of the Gujarati language in their leadership. He also spoke on the police force's strategic role during freedom movements, calling Gujarat's police history a key foundation of the state's progress.
Certificates were awarded to winners of the Gujarat Cultural Elocution Competition 2025. The vote of thanks was delivered by SISSP Director, Bhawanisinh Rathore.
The event saw active participation from students, faculty, and members of the public, serving as a tribute to Gujarat's heritage and the enduring values shaping its identity.
