New Delhi: Career Mosaic, South Asia's leading international student recruitment agency, has released its International Student Safety Report 2025, highlighting global improvements in student safety while identifying persistent challenges in housing, mental health, and discrimination. With over 1.3 million Indians studying abroad, safety remains a top priority for students, families, and universities alike.

The report, covering data from 41 countries, shows that institutions are increasingly implementing safety apps, buddy systems, 24/7 helplines, housing protections, and culturally competent mental health programs to create secure and inclusive learning environments. Over 6 million international students contribute nearly $300 billion annually to host economies, making proactive safety measures both ethically and strategically important for universities worldwide.

“Studying abroad is a major investment in a student's future,” said Abhijit Zaveri, Founder and Director of Career Mosaic. “The data show that while risks like scams and discrimination persist, universities and governments are actively addressing them through buddy systems, digital safety tools, housing safeguards, and mental health support. These measures make studying abroad safer and more accessible than ever.”

Key Findings:
Enhanced safety measures: Institutions in Canada, the UK, and Australia now offer apps like My SSP and SafeZone, escorted night transport, and peer-led buddy systems.
Housing protections: Governments are tightening rental regulations to protect students from scams and overcrowding.
Mental health support: Culturally sensitive counseling, wellness programs, and virtual mental health apps like TimelyCare are expanding to meet student needs.
Community engagement: Orientation workshops, student associations, and neighborhood watch initiatives foster inclusivity and reduce risks.
Remaining gaps: Nearly 20% of first-year students exhibit mental health symptoms, but fewer than 40% access campus services. Housing scams still affect up to one-third of students in some regions, and discrimination remains a concern, particularly for Asian, female, and LGBTQ+ students.

The report emphasizes that prioritizing student safety is essential for sustaining international education. Countries such as Canada, Australia, the UK, and the US are investing in comprehensive safety measures to remain competitive and attractive to international students.

Career Mosaic is a South Asia-based international student recruitment agency with over 23 years of experience, working with more than 900 universities across 30 countries. The organization provides guidance and support to help students from South Asia apply to universities abroad and assists institutions in managing student recruitment processes.
