Chennai: The Tamil Nadu government on Monday said the state has emerged as a leader in providing quality school education in the country, citing the introduction of several new initiatives since 2021.
Chief Minister M K Stalin has rolled out schemes to ensure every student in Tamil Nadu has access to higher education, a government statement said. The newly released State Education Policy has been welcomed by educationists, it added.
High-speed internet has been provided to 28,067 government schools, while the remaining 6,540 schools are in progress. As many as 38 model schools—one in each district—have been established at a cost of ₹352 crore, enabling graduates to secure admission in premier higher education institutions.
Further, 8,209 high-tech laboratories are being set up in middle, high and higher secondary schools at a cost of ₹519 crore. The state has also constructed 22,931 classrooms at ₹455 crore, benefitting about 16.7 lakh students.
In addition, 79,723 secondary school teachers have been given laptops at a cost of ₹81 crore, the statement said.
The government asserted that these initiatives underscore Tamil Nadu's commitment to inclusive and technology-driven education.
