Chennai: The Tamil Nadu Higher Education Department has directed all colleges to install CCTV cameras as part of enhanced security measures on campuses.

The move follows a recent incident of sexual harassment on the Anna University campus in Chennai, which prompted authorities to review safety protocols in higher educational institutions.

A review meeting held under senior officials outlined the guidelines, which have been issued to all government, government-aided, and private colleges. As per the directive, cameras must be installed in institutions currently without surveillance systems. Additionally, adequate lighting should be provided in areas with insufficient illumination.

Colleges have also been instructed to maintain records of students, faculty, staff, and visitors entering the premises to strengthen security and monitoring.

The guidelines form part of a broader initiative by the state government to ensure campus safety and prevent incidents of harassment.
