Chennai: The Tamil Nadu Government extends deadline for online application of students under Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education act, 2009, said the Director, Matriculation Schools, Tamil Nadu.

Earlier, students to apply under RTE towards studying in self-financed private institutions were fixed as 5, July to 3, Aug 2021.  
Considering the current situation due to Covid pandemic the final deadline has been extend to 13, August 2021.

As on 3, Aug, 2021, the directorate had received 73,086 applications.

Students belonging to socially disadvantaged and economically weaker section seeking admission in private schools need to post application to rte.tnschools.gov.in, he said.

According to the RTE act mandates private schools to reserve 25% admission seats to students belonging to Economically Weaker and Disadvantaged sections.
