Chennai: The School Education Department has directed teachers in Tamil Nadu government schools to create individual e-mail addresses for students from Class 9 to Plus Two to facilitate online educational activities.

According to the department, separate e-mail IDs are required for students to enrol in online certificate courses offered by the Tamil Nadu Skill Development Corporation, apply for competitive examinations for higher education, and submit applications to colleges.

Last year, teachers were asked to help government school students in Classes 9 to Plus Two create their e-mail IDs. Continuing the initiative, the latest order covers newly admitted Class 9 students and those from Classes 10 to Plus Two who do not yet have an e-mail ID.

Headmasters have been instructed to ensure that the newly created e-mail addresses are registered on the Education Management Information System (EMIS) portal. They have also been told to guide students on the effective use of e-mail, the department added.
