Chennai: The winners of the 2025 Universal Postal Union (UPU) International Letter Writing Competition for Young People were felicitated at a special ceremony held in Chennai on World Post Day, October 9.
The annual international competition, organized by the UPU, aims to inspire young people aged 9 to 15 to express their ideas creatively through letter writing.
This year's theme was “Imagine you are the ocean. Write a letter to someone explaining why and how they should take good care of you.”
The contest received an enthusiastic response from students across Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, with a total of 8,096 entries submitted under the jurisdiction of the Tamil Nadu Postal Circle.
Ms. A. Anisha, an 8th standard student of Government Higher Secondary School, Sivalingapuram, Rajapalayam, Virudhunagar, won the first prize of ₹25,000.
Ms. P. Varsha Menon, a 10th standard student of Stanes Anglo-Indian Higher Secondary School, Coimbatore, secured the second prize of ₹10,000, while
Ms. V. Vedha Shree, an 8th standard student of John Dewey Matric Higher Secondary School, Panruti, won the third prize of ₹5,000.
The prizes were presented by Smt. Mariamma Thomas, Chief Postmaster General, Tamil Nadu Circle, who congratulated the winners for their creativity and awareness of environmental conservation.
The event highlighted the Department of Posts' efforts to promote letter writing as a means of nurturing literacy, imagination, and social awareness among youth.
