Chennai: VIT University, Vellore, has climbed to the 352nd position globally and secured 7th place in India in the latest QS World University Sustainability Rankings, marking its highest performance to date.

Chancellor G. Viswanathan said the QS organisation released the sustainability rankings for the current year, evaluating 2,000 institutions from 106 countries. VIT recorded an overall score of 74.9 across eight parameters, including knowledge transfer, employability and health.

He said the university registered notable improvement in three major areas — social impact, environmental impact and governance. VIT ranked 194th globally in the environmental impact category with a score of 78.1, reflecting its strong performance on sustainability indicators.

Last year, VIT stood at the 396th position in the QS sustainability category. With its latest climb to 352nd, the institution has broken into the top 400 globally, Viswanathan said.
