Italian engineers unveil four-legged Centauro robot that could soon play role in disaster relief work. The robot, modelled on the mythical centaur, has been developed by researchers at the IIT-Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia (Italian Institute of Technology).

According to its creators, the wheeled robot has six degrees of freedom in its legs, allowing it to rotate and extend its hips, knees, and ankles to perform different tasks.

Given its ability to lift heavy weights and navigate difficult terrain, the researchers say soon it could be useful in disaster relief efforts.
