It is a proud moment for all Tamilians and Indians around the world, as Dr. Veera Kumar Mohan, who was born and brought up in Madurai, has received the Distinguished Service to Safety Award (DSSA) 2025 — the highest recognition presented by the National Safety Council (NSC), USA) to safety professionals globally.
Among only five recipients worldwide, Dr. Veera Kumar is the only person outside the USA to be honoured with this prestigious award at the NSC Safety Congress & Expo 2025, held from 15-17 September 2025 in Denver, USA.
Dr. Veera Kumar completed his Mechanical Engineering from PSNA College of Engineering and Technology, Dindigul, and his M.E. in Industrial Safety Engineering from Regional Engineering College (REC) Tiruchirappalli, now known as NIT Trichy, in December 2000. With over 24.5 years of experience, he is currently working at the Abu Dhabi Vocational Education and Training Institute (ADVETI) and residing in Abu Dhabi, UAE.
Reflecting on his journey, Dr. Mohan shared,
“This recognition is not just a milestone, but a reflection of a journey that began in a family where formal schooling was limited. Every challenge I faced was met with resilience and humility. I dedicate this award to my teachers, mentors, family, and every professional committed to making workplaces safer.”
He further added,
“I have always believed in the philosophy 'Certify Globally, Empower Locally' — to uplift others while maintaining professional excellence.”
In an emotional note, he said, “I dedicate this award to every hardworking Indian protecting their families and communities. I believe my best is yet to come. Inspired by Dr. Kamal Haasan's global impact, I wish to protect lives and promote community safety through my service.”
As he completes 25 years in the Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) profession, Dr. Mohan continues to inspire countless professionals and students to view safety not merely as compliance but as a shared human value and a moral responsibility.
This achievement stands as a beacon of pride for Madurai, Tamil Nadu, and India, reminding us that with hard work, faith, and purpose, a humble beginning can lead to global recognition.
