Sep 08, 2024

On Saturday, September 7, most of the streets in the nation's capital were closed to motor vehicles traffic and opened up for cyclists. The non-profit organization **DC Bike Ride** conducts this 20-mile cycling event annually. By dedicating the streets of the capital city exclusively to cyclists, this event provides an opportunity for people to celebrate the joy of cycling.
During this event, many of Washington, DC's streets are closed to cars, giving people of all ages the chance to enjoy a scenic, safe, and uninterrupted cycling experience. Cyclists are treated to stunning views of iconic landmarks like the U.S. Capitol Building, Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial, and the Potomac River. By shutting down major roads, the event creates a stress-free, pleasant atmosphere where participants can appreciate the beauty of the capital without the usual traffic concerns.
This cycling event is not a race but a family-friendly ride that welcomes participants ranging from casual riders to expert cyclists. Covering about 20 miles, it provides a rare opportunity to ride through many of the capital's major roads, bridges and flyovers'. It is designed for people of all ages—including children, families, and seniors—the event ensures safety throughout.
Events like this are organized across the U.S. to promote healthy living, environmental conservation, and community engagement. Indian-founded cycling group Fun Cycle Riders (https://funcleriders.org/) also took part in this event.
Additionally, Fun Cycle Riders is planning to hold a Bicycle Safety Awareness Camp in Pennsylvania on September 22 and a community cycling event in collaboration with a local charity in New Jersey on September 29 to raise awareness and spread the importance of cycling. Let's all do bicycle ride, stay refreshed, and promote an healthy lifestyle! Riding is Fun!
